Ground Breaking

History

Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Trust, Northern Bypass, Multan was established in April, 1999. It is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit charitable organization. The Board of Trustees has always been moved by the plight of the poor. It realized that a large segment of population in Pakistan was living below the poverty line and it was in dire need of genuine support from the affluent class of society. The Board therefore decided to serve the lower strata of society through the establishment of the present Trust on permanent basis.
Prior to the establishment of the Trust an outdoor dispensary was setup in January, 1998 at Masoom Shah Road, Multan. The response was encouraging and the Board of Trustees decided to establish the Trust accordingly. It was formed and registered by the Sub-Registrar Urban Multan under the Trust Act of 1882 vide registration No. 3164/1 dated 08-05-1999. Trust is also duly certified by Pakistan Center for Philanthropy (PCP).

Traditions (Orientation)

Everyone in Bakhtawar Amin and specially the Office of Student Affairs is planning and eagerly looking forward to your arrival. Please feel free to turn to this office for assistance and assurance. Aid and comfort are available whenever needed. Medical studies are time consuming and very stressful. They require a lot of dedication and effort on behalf of any student and a lot of support from all concerned. An exhaustive curriculum with minimal time for relaxation, high parental expectations, fear of ragging, fear of faculty attitude, loneliness, and a host of other factors make the first year difficult for most students. These factors can accumulate and drop outs occur amongst students during first year of their training.
Thus, efforts have to be made to orient the students to their new environment. The aim of our orientation program is to make the students understand the college experience, expectations from them, and enable them to take personal responsibility for their own social and academic choices.

White Coat Ceremony

At Bakhtawar Amin we conduct a “White Coat Ceremony” to formally launch the session for first year students. A tradition where first-year dental students don their white coats in the presence of their families and step into the next phase in their lives as aspiring dentists. We hope this will be a start of a lifetime of learning about Dentistry. At this ceremony, the faculty shares with the students what is without parallel in other professions, the thrill of making the right diagnosis and sending a sick person back on the road to health. The ceremony concludes with high tea. We look forward to seeing you and your families on this momentous occasion.

Radiology

The Department provides a full range of maxillofacial and dental radiography for dentists. Installed equipment includes:
- X-Ray - OPG (Orthopantomogram) and
- Lat Ceph (Lateral Cephalometric Radiograph)
The range of imaging examinations performed for the patients depends on the clinical problem. We perform standard 2-dimensional imaging, such as individual teeth, or the whole mouth. If more complex imaging is needed, we have Digital OPG.
OPG provides a panoramic or wide view x-ray of the lower face, which displays all the teeth of the upper and lower jaw on a single film. It demonstrates the number, position and growth of all the teeth including those that have not yet surfaced or erupted. OPG is also used to reveal problems with the jawbone and the joint which connects the jawbone to the head. An OPG may be requested for the planning of orthodontic treatment, for assessment of wisdom teeth or for a general overview of the teeth and the bone which supports the teeth.

The laboratory is facilitated with modern equipment and is open 24 hours. The technicians in this lab are made available round the clock to work during night hours and holidays for emergency services. The students, will know the name and character of various pathogenic bacteria (Bacteriology), virus (Virology), parasite (Parasitology) and fungus (Mycology), and will also learn how an infectious agent enters into our body and how they affect our normal functions and ultimately cause the disease. They will be able to diagnose the disease and identify the organism responsible for the disease. Special emphasis is also given on the mechanism by which our body protects itself from various foreign agents

The first contact of a medical student is with the Anatomy department. Knowledge of anatomy is highly relevant to dentistry; this is especially obvious when performing anesthesia or surgical procedures and when using various examination methods. For this reason, a solid knowledge of anatomy is fundamental to the dentist’s daily work. Head and neck anatomy is particularly important. The Anatomy Faculty at Bakhtawar Amin Dental College endeavors to equip the students with adequate knowledge for understanding the structural components of the body responsible for carrying out normal body functions. To enable the student to use the Anatomy knowledge to understand and appreciate the other subjects taught in the College and to understand the basis of common clinical conditions. Faculty at Bakhtawar Amin Dental College works to create a feeling in the student that their journey towards making of a doctor has started.

Dr. Khalid Hussain is the head of the Department of Community Dentistry.
Community Dentistry is a branch of specialization in dentistry which focuses on the overall oral health of the community. The branch deals with preventive and curative services for individual patients and also promotion of better oral health for community at large. This branch shows a different role of dentist in society as a provider of comprehensive care to the public. Uneven distribution of dental care facilities especially in rural areas, lack of awareness regarding oral health and hygiene makes Community Dentistry an important discipline.
The subject of Community Dentistry is of vital importance to the undergraduates. Under the above guidelines, the main motto of the department of Community Dentistry is "Affordable, Accessible and Sustainable Oral Health Care”. The students in Bakhtawar Amin Dental College are trained to achieve this motto. Students are trained to develop communication skills to take up community responsibility.

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)

Dentistry is a demanding course in which students gradually develop their technical skills on a base of academic teaching about the biology of the human body and science behind dentistry. Recent decades have seen major advances in technology, transforming the way dentists deal with issues both of tooth decay and patients' cosmetic concerns. Bakhtawar Amin Dental College endeavors to provide facilities to its students to be the best in their fields.
Typically, the first year is spent in pre-clinical study where the emphasis is on the basic dental sciences, first year subjects include anatomy, physiology, oral biology and biochemistry.
This academic work continues throughout the course, but after the first-year students will start developing their clinical dental skills, under supervision of experience consultants. Work typically begins in the teaching hospital, but Bakhtawar Amin encourages periods spent in community dental practices.

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)

Students get the chance to opt for specialist knowledge in fields, such as Pediatric Dentistry, Dental Prosthetics and Dental Radiography. In addition, courses tend to emphasize the development of communication, information technology and personal management skills. Career prospects for most dentistry students would be to start general dental practice. A minority will go on to academic dentistry, hospital dental service or community dental practice. We prepare students to understand and recognize conditions that psychologically, medically or physically compromise dental patients in context of societal, ethical and cultural influences. We train our students to apply principles of preventive dentistry to individual patients, population groups, and communities. Faculty members have a commitment to continuing scholarly productivity.
